ERA-2APB682X 6.8K Ohm Precision Thin Film Resistor for High Accuracy Circuits

The ERA-2APB682X is a precision thin film chip resistor designed for applications where a standard 1 percent resistor is not accurate enough.

Its 6.8K ohm resistance, 0.1% tolerance and ±15 ppm/°C temperature coefficient make it particularly suitable for circuits where the resistor value needs to remain stable as operating conditions change.

At the same time, it uses a very small 0402 package, so designers can add precision resistance without giving up much PCB space.

6.8K Ohm With 0.1% Accuracy

The 6.8K value is useful in many analog circuits, especially where a resistor forms part of a carefully selected ratio.

For example, two resistors can establish the gain of an analog stage or create a voltage divider for an ADC input. In these situations, replacing 6.8K with a nearby value can change the behavior of the circuit.

The 0.1% tolerance of ERA-2APB682X keeps the actual resistance much closer to its nominal value than a conventional 1% resistor.

That difference can be important in precision measurement and signal conditioning.

Why the 0402 Package Is Interesting

Precision resistors are not always large components.

ERA-2APB682X uses the 0402 package, measuring approximately 1.0 mm by 0.5 mm. This allows it to be positioned close to an IC, sensor or other precision circuit without consuming significant board area.

This combination of a very small footprint and tight resistance tolerance makes the component useful for compact electronic products.

The trade-off is that 0402 components require suitable SMT assembly equipment and careful PCB layout.

Low Temperature Coefficient

Resistance changes slightly as temperature changes.

For a general-purpose resistor, this may have little effect. For a precision circuit, however, temperature drift can gradually change the output voltage or measurement result.

ERA-2APB682X has a ±15 ppm/°C TCR, helping maintain a more consistent resistance over temperature.

This characteristic is particularly useful when the resistor is part of a reference, feedback or measurement network.

Thin Film Construction

The thin film construction is another reason this part is different from ordinary chip resistors.

Thin film resistors are commonly selected for their accuracy, stability and low noise characteristics.

That makes ERA-2APB682X more appropriate for precision analog circuits than for simple applications such as LED current limiting or basic digital pull-ups.

In a carefully designed analog circuit, the resistor itself can become part of the accuracy budget, so its tolerance and temperature coefficient need to be considered.

Applications for ERA-2APB682X

This resistor can be considered for:

  • Precision voltage dividers

  • Analog feedback circuits

  • Sensor interfaces

  • Measurement equipment

  • Signal conditioning

  • Reference circuits

  • Industrial electronics

  • Automotive electronics

Its compact size also makes it attractive when the PCB has limited room but the circuit still requires tighter resistance specifications.

Power and Voltage Considerations

ERA-2APB682X is a small 0402 resistor with a power rating of approximately 0.063W and a voltage rating of around 50V.

These limits should be considered when designing the circuit.

A precision resistor should not be selected purely by resistance and tolerance. If the circuit continuously dissipates significant power, the designer needs to check the actual operating conditions and applicable derating requirements.

Keeping the component within its intended operating range also helps preserve long-term stability.

ERA-2APB682X for Automotive Electronics

The ERA-2A series is also relevant to automotive-oriented designs, where component stability and reliability can become more demanding than in basic consumer electronics.

A precision resistor may be used in sensing, monitoring and control circuits where small changes in resistance can influence the resulting signal.

For automotive applications, the complete qualification and environmental requirements of the selected component should be checked against the system specification.

Choosing an ERA-2APB682X Replacement

A replacement should not be selected simply by searching for another 6.8K 0402 resistor.

The important characteristics include:

6.8K ohm resistance

0.1% tolerance

±15 ppm/°C temperature coefficient

0402 package

Thin film technology

Suitable power and voltage rating

A standard 6.8K thick film resistor may fit the same PCB while having significantly different accuracy and temperature characteristics.

ERA-2APB682X Supplier Search

For procurement, the complete ERA-2APB682X part number is the best search term.

This avoids confusion with other Panasonic ERA series resistors that may have the same 6.8K resistance but different package sizes, tolerances or temperature coefficients.

For an existing BOM, confirm the exact MPN before purchasing rather than selecting a component based only on its resistance value.

For compact designs that require 6.8K precision resistance in a 0402 thin film package, ERA-2APB682X offers a useful combination of small size, tight tolerance and low temperature drift.
